  5. We revel in life's beginning, wrestle with its challenges
  6. and take pride in our achievements. We know deep
  7. down that we are mortal and that our life will end
  8. some time in the future‚Äîthe distant future, we
  9. hope‚Äîbut we are not consciously aware of
  10. our mortality from day to day.
  11.     The media bombard us with flashes of
  12. death in stories and graphic pictures of
  13. car accidents, plane crashes, murders and
  14. wars, but we block them out in our minds.
  15. We feel protected and safe. We can accept
  16. the deaths of war heroes and old people,
  17. but reject the idea of its happening to us.
  18. We focus on guarding and enjoying our life and
  19. intuitively distance ourselves from thoughts of our mortality.
